How Do We Make Our Self-Catering Apartments Sustainable?

As a local business driven by the local team, here at BELL Apartments, we focus on sustainability across all aspects of our short-stay accommodations. Our processes and business decisions ensure that our guests and the local community benefit from eco-friendly practices.

Eco-Friendly Guest Experience

We offer paperless check-in and check-out, reducing paper waste and streamlining operations. To avoid overstaffing and cut unnecessary emissions, we embraced remote processes and systems, and 30% of our maintenance team use electric vehicles when attending call-outs.

Thanks to motion-activated lighting in communal areas, we minimise energy consumption across all BELL Apartments locations.

At the same time, all our apartments are equipped with reusable kitchenware and cutlery, encouraging guests to shop local, dine in and prepare their own meals, which helps to reduce emissions associated with ordering takeaway food delivery and supports local economy in the process.

Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Laundry

From open window detection systems to reduce heating and cooling energy to the use of towel rails that promote reusing towels, our apartments are designed to save energy.

Our laundry practices are also optimised to reduce energy use, with towels and linens washed at a maximum of 60°C/140°F, which ensures a high level of hygiene whilst reducing our impact on the natural environment.

We recognise that longer-stay guests may wish to arrange weekly, monthly or on-demand refresh cleans, but this is an optional upgrade to limit the impact of unnecessary use of linen, laundry and cleaning products.

Sustainable Buildings, Green Spaces & Waste Reduction

Our buildings, renovated within the last decade, are built to the highest standards, with insulated walls, roofs, and ceilings to conserve energy. Where possible, green spaces and gardens are included, adding natural beauty to the properties while contributing to environmental sustainability.

To further reduce the environmental impact of our properties, we carefully select energy suppliers who prioritise sustainability and rely on renewable energy sources.

We are passionate about promoting responsible waste management, therefore we provide bins for separating general waste, glass, cans, and paper. This encourages guests to play their part in minimising waste and supporting recycling efforts during their stay, helping us to deliver more sustainable and eco-friendly accommodation.

Supporting the Local Community

We are proud to actively contribute to the local community. All furniture that is no longer in use but is still in good condition is donated to a local charity, Women's Aid, and our team regularly takes part in local initiatives to support charitable work in the area.

Our commitment to ESG obviously extends to our staff. We monitor, review and maintain employee wages above the national minimum, and to ensure the further well-being of our team, we regularly provide health and safety training.

By choosing a sustainable short stay with us, our guests can enjoy a comfortable experience that doesn't cost the Earth and positively impacts the Staffordshire community.
